Scope and Contents: This early record book includes approximately 358 pages of hand-drawn plats of almost every township in Pope County, Ill. Most pages show surveying landmarks, such as oak, sycamore, or gum trees. Some pages also show landownership (the names of owners and when they acquired particular parcels). The volume, with entries from the late 1830s to the early 1890s, may have served as a preliminary record book of the county or it may have been kept by a land survey company. It was acquired by the Library in 1971.
