This bibliography is part of a series on college and university archives publications compiled by members of the ICA/SUV. This part includes works in Spanish published in Latin America, from 1985 to the present. Searches were made in the following databases: HAPI, ERIC, OCLC, and Library Literature.

Archivists from Latin America also provided publications to be included in the bibliography. Letters were sent to archivists in several Latin American countries. I would like to acknowledge the archivists from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, México, and Perú for the publications received, which are included in this work.

This is not an exhaustive bibliography. Others works on university archives could exist which are not included.

An article providing the history, goals and objectives of CREDI, which was founded by the Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos (OEI) in 1953. Its main purpose is to support the programs and projects of the Organization.

These works highlight the need and importance of the educational process for Argentinean archivists working in special archives (including university archives). The participants have challenged archivists to better educate students about archival programs.

An article about the successful congress of the Archivo General de la Nación held at the Palacio de Lecumberri in México, D.F. At this Congress, thirty-two papers were presented. Some of the papers highlighted the archives of university and research institutions.

The author emphasized the importance of communication within the archival world. Archivists from academic and research institutions in México and other Latin American countries contributed to these conclusions.

The author presents to the administration of the University, the cultural and economic benefits that the institution could obtain with the implementation of archival programs. She further explains the importance of establishing preservation programs and guidelines for the use of the documents.

18. Gutiérrez Muñoz, César. El archivo universitario. Lima, Perú: Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 1994.

The author presents several works on the relationship between the university archives and the university. The majority of these works were presented in seminars and conferences sponsored by the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. The first conference "I Reunión de Archivos Universitarios (RAU)," was held in June 1989 at the Pontificia Universidad Católica. At the RAU meetings, the archivist of the Universidad de Lima, suggested the creation of the Comisión de los Archivos Universitarios, which was established on May 24, 199l.

A paper presenting a profile of the university archivist. The archivist is a leader which must have a clear understanding of the parent institution, an appreciation of the role the repository plays and a vision of what the archives should achieve.

The conflicts and problems of governmental, educational and private archives in México are examined in this paper. The author urges the archival community and the federal archival administration to cooperate in the implementation of new archival programs.

It also discusses the implementation of an automation program at the university.

This work presents statements on a basic policy and establishes areas of administrative authority which should be adopted by the institution. If the archive is part of an institution, the administrator of the archives should be involved in the planning and evaluation processes of the institution. The mission of the university archives is to provide space and facilities for preserving, processing, and use of the records.
