ICA draft Principles of Access to Archives discussed at the 2011 SUV Conference.

The ICA's Committee on Best Practices and Standards (CBPS): Working Group on Access wishes to expand on the advances that the recent establishment of standards for description have provided for access. It is now working on a set of principles to outline the legal authority for persons to access archives. In some cases, access must be balanced against a need for restrictions, and the draft Principles document attempts to articulate how to achieve this balance. To help the CBPS develop a sound set of principles, all attending the 2011 SUV Conference in Edmonton are encouraged to review the
initial portion of the report which can be found here. If your time is limited, just look at the 10 principles themselves on pages 8-12.
