AGRICOLA is the bibliographic database of the National Agriculture Library. It indexes over 2,000 U.S. journals, theses, monographs and technical reports held at the National Agriculture Library.
Agricultural and Environmental Biotechnology Abstracts (See Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management subfiles)
"Covers agricultural products involving both plants and animals, new applications across the food industry, and wide-ranging environmental developments. Plant genome studies are examined in detail. Food, chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology companies as well as scientists and other professionals working in agricultural and environmental fields will find information essential to their work here."
Applied Science and Technology Index
This index covers journal articles, product evaluations, and book reviews from over 390 English language periodicals in engineering, aeronautics, chemistry, and computer technology. Included in its coverage are trade and industrial publications, professional and learned societies' journals, and specialized subject periodicals. It covers 1983 to the present.
ASFA 3: Aquatic Pollution and Environmental Quality (See Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management subfiles)
"Devoted exclusively to research and policy on the contamination of oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and estuaries. ASFA 3 contains information that will prove essential to specialists who deal in any capacity with aquatic environments and marine pollution problems, including biologists, oceanographers, limnologists, environmental engineers and scientists, industrial engineers, waste managers, corporate regulatory affairs managers, and government officials."
Biological Abstracts (BIOSIS)
Biological Abstracts indexes over 6,500 journals in the life sciences. Articles indexed in this database are scholarly, scientific works published in refereed journals. This is the best index to use when looking for research articles in the life sciences.
CAB Abstracts indexes over 8,500 international scientific journals in addition to books, reports and conference proceedings. It broadly covers agricultural subjects including veterinary medicine.
Current Contents indexes over 7500 international journals from many disciplines and includes a subsection for Agriculture, Biology and Environmental Sciences. This index is updated weekly and provides the most current access to scholarly journal articles.
Ecology Abstracts (See Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management subfiles)
Covers "a wide range of disciplines, reflecting recent advances in light of growing evidence regarding global environmental change and destruction. Ecology Abstracts focuses on how organisms of all kinds - microbes, plants, and animals - interact with their environments and with other organisms. Included are relevant papers on evolutionary biology, economics, and systems analysis as they relate to ecosystems or the environment."
EIS: Digests of Environmental Impact Statements (See Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management subfiles)
Provides detailed abstracts of all federal government environmental impact statements. "EIS extracts the key issues from complex government-released environmental impact statements, converting massive documents into concise, readable abstracts" which includes a project description, positive impact and negative consequences, and legal mandates.
Environmental Engineering Abstracts (See Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management subfiles)
"Covers the world literature pertaining to technological and engineering aspects of air and water quality, environmental safety, and energy production."
Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management
This multidisciplinary database provides comprehensive coverage of the environmental sciences. Abstracts and citations are drawn from over 1500 scientific journals and thousands of other sources including conference proceedings, reports, monographs, books and government publications. This database has several subfiles which can be selected individually or combined to search (this currently must be done through the main database, Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management), including:
Fish & Fisheries Worldwide
This database covers topics relating to the ecology, genetics, pathology, aquaculture management, etc. or fish. Citations range from journal articles and books to government documents, conference papers, and so on. Over 200,000 citations, dating from around 1971 to the present, are contained in this collection. [More information]
Human Population & Natural Resource Management (See Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management subfiles)
Covers human population and demography topics, and societal issues involving natural resource management. Includes relevant papers, reports, books and reviews from standard peer-reviewed scientific journals, with summaries of conference proceedings and hard-to-find gray literature.
MEDLINE indexes over 3200 biomedical, dental and nursing journals. Use this database when searching for articles concerning medical/health aspects of environmental biology (such as lead poisoning, endocrine disrupters, toxicology or environment and public health).
Pollution Abstracts (See Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management subfiles)
Covers topics on pollution relating to atmosphere, emissions, mathematical models, effects on people and animals, and environmental action in response to global pollution issues. In addition to information from primary journals in the field, summaries of conference proceedings and hard-to-find documents are provided. Sources include scientific research and government policies.
Reader's Guide indexes popular general interest magazine, such as Time and Newsweek. This index is useful when looking for media coverage of environmental issues or for general information regarding environmental organizations and events.
Risk Abstracts (See Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management subfiles)
"Encompasses risk arising from industrial, technological, environmental, and other sources, with an emphasis on assessment and management of risk."
Toxicology Abstracts (See Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management subfiles)
"Covers issues from social poisons and substance abuse to natural toxins, from legislation and recommended standards to environmental issues."
Water Resources Abstracts (See Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management subfiles)
Covers "the characteristics, conservation, control, pollution, treatment, use and management of water resources. Abstracts are drawn from journals, books, conference proceedings, and technical reports in the physical and life sciences, as well as from engineering, legal and government publications."
This index covers literature on wildlife (primarily mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians) and wildlife management. Over 435,000 citations are available, with coverage starting in 1935. [More information]
