A comprehensive starting point for the researching of literary works and figures. The LRC includes a broad array of resources including encyclopedia entries, literary criticism, reviews, and multimedia.
An excellent starting point for researching the academic criticism on a particular work of
literature. The MLA (Modern Language Association) Bibliography indexes scholarly criticism
in language, literature, folklore, and linguistics from 1963 to the present. Also available in
print form. Access restricted to University of Illinois users.
An excellent starting point for researching the academic and popular criticism on a particular film or figure associated with film (directors, actors, etc). Indexes film literature from 300 periodicals since 1972, and includes the FIAF thesaurus. Additionally, the database features print sources for 22,000 silent films, a bibliography of FIAF members' publications and a directory of film and TV documentation collections. This database is an acclaimed international compendium of information on film and television from the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF). Restricted to University of Illinois users. The most comprehensive and authoritative Shakespeare resource available online. Brings together general reference data, full-text scholarly periodicals, reprinted criticism, primary source material and the full-text annotated works from The Arden Shakespeare, the world's most recognized scholarly edition.
A large database of full-text journal articles. An archive of hundreds of digitized journals published in the arts, humanities and social sciences. QUICK TIP: Limit your results by subject by clicking on "article search" on the top navigation bar and then clicking "select from list" link to the right of the "journal subject" field. Otherwise your search will likely turn up results in a host of irrelevant subjects, from Agriculture to Public Administration.
An even larger database of full-text journal articles. An archive of over 1500 academic journals in range of disciplines with fulltext from 1990 on, with another 4000 journals with full citations and summaries from 1984. QUICK TIP: After your initial search, the "narrow results by..." tabs on the right hand side can be tremendously useful for focusing in on your topic.
A great place to start your search for journal articles in film. The Film and Television Literature Index includes full index and abstracts for 300 journals in film and some full text.
