At the Iter homepage, click on "Select a Database."
Select "Try the New Search Interface." This might require the system to change a few settings on your web browser. If so, click "OK" and proceed.
The search page is set to basic search.
Fill in each search box with a term of interest, e.g. Chaucer in one box, love in the other. The search is set to find items which contain both terms (AND).
You can choose to find items with either term (OR) which would be useful for finding items that have either a singular or a plural form of the word, e.g. tale OR tales.
To find items with one term but not the other (NOT), to eliminate items that are not of interest, e.g. knight NOT gawain.
Note the Select Database choice. Select Articles, Books, or Reviews.
Click on the Search button.
The Results page shows total hits and displays the items 10 at a time in brief format. To see the entire list of results in full format, click on the Full Display button.
From the Brief Display, to see an item in full, click on the title.
Note that some items have a list of subject headings. You can click on a subject heading to identify materials with that subject heading.
You may mark items of interest from the brief listing or the full display.
After you have items marked, you have a choice of emailing, printing or downloading the items.
Advanced Search page lets you limit the items retrieved by language or by year.
Search History shows you the results of the searches you have done this session. The "Merge" option allows you to find items that have both search elements (AND) or items that have either search element (OR). Be sure to check the Select Database box to see if it is searching the right material type, Articles, Books, or Reviews.
