I-Share Libraries
If you are a University of Illinois student, you may check out books in person using your i-card at any of the 65 I-Share member libraries. I-Share members include all state-supported university libraries and 36 private colleges. For a complete list of I-Share libraries, click here.
You can search the combined holdings of all the I-Share libraries using the I-Share Catalog, or you can limit your search to a particular library by selecting it from the dropdown list.
Note: You can request that any item be sent for pickup to any I-Share library through the online request feature. First, locate the item and verify it is available at one of the I-Share libraries. If it is, click Request on the upper menu bar. Select your home library, and enter your patron ID (the 14-digit number on your i-card, beginning with 20). After logging in, click OK to request the first available copy. On the next screen, you will be able to select which I-Share library to have the item sent to, and the location within that library at which you would like to pick up the item. I-Share requests usually take about 4-5 working days to fulfill, and you will receive an email when the item is available for pickup. For more information, see this I-Share page. You may also request assistance from the library phone center at 1-866-262-1510 (toll-free).
Other Illinois Libraries
For children's and young adult literature, your local public library may be an excellent resource. If you are a student teacher in east-central Illinois, you are probably near a LINC (Lincoln Trail Library System) library. You can search LINC Pac, the shared online catalog for the Lincoln Trail libraries, here. If you have a Champaign Public Library or Urbana Free Library card, you may use it to check out books in person at any LINC member library.
SILC (the Statewide Illinois Library Catalog) allows you to search the holdings of all Illinois libraries, or limit your search to libraries in a particular region.
LIBWEB, a project of the Berkeley Digital Library, is an extensive database of library servers throughout the world. For its listing of public libraries in Illinois, click here.
