This guide divides resources into sections by ethnic population groups described in the 2000 Census. Ethnic groups represented include the American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander. Provides access to articles from major journals in sociology and related fields. Abstracts more than 620 core journals dating back to 1895 and indexes approximately 2,000 other journals. This multidisciplinary database identifies journal articles and cited references in all social science disciplines. Allows searching for articles on a particular topic, or for articles that have cited a known article. Lists references that can be used to search for related articles with common citations.

Indexes periodicals with a Marxist, radical or leftist perspective. Articles included provide a critical analysis on topics such as history, sociology, political science, psychology, women's studies, art, and literature. This four-volume set describes the history of qualitative research and its modern implications. Volume 1 focuses on "History, Ethics, Politics and Paradigms of Inquiry;" Volume 2 discusses "Strategies of Inquiry;" Volume 3 provides information on "Methods of Collecting Empirical Materials," and Volume 4 gives an explanation of "Interpretative Practices." Doing Social Science Research. 2004.

This book provides an introduction to empirical research methods in the social sciences. The target audience, as identified on the back cover, is "students taking introductory courses in social research at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level." After an introduction, there are two major sections: quantitative/numerical research (covering survey and experimental methods and statistical tests) and qualitative/textual research (covering interview, ethnographic, and discourse analytic methods). A concluding section goes over method evaluation and selection. The focus is on the practical, methodological (rather than the philosophical) aspects of research. Self-assessment tasks and questions are interspersed throughout the text to reinforce key points. Chapters conclude with suggestions for further reading.

A list of entries and a reader's guide (that lists entries by subject) precedes each volume. Provides a chronological list of important social theorists and their major works. Also provides excerpts from the major works. Intended as a textbook for a one-semester, graduate-level course in survey methodology, it describes the basic principles of survey design, provides advice on executing surveys, and explores the research underlying current practice. Basic knowledge of statistics is required to understand the content. Each chapter includes suggestions for further reading and practice exercises. References and an index are included.

This volume is a collection of essays on 25 of the leading social theorists. Divided into 2 sections, one section discusses classical social theorists and the other contemporary social theorists. The essays include a brief discussion of their life and work as well as place them within a greater social context with various other thinkers. Includes bibliographies of work by each theorist as well as works on them and on their theories for further reading.
