Children's Britannica. 4th ed. Chicago: Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc., 1990.

Alphabetical entries include biographies. Revised in 1988 to include technological advances and changes.

Dictionary of American Children's Fiction, 1995-1999: Books of Recognized Merit. Helbig, Alethea. 2002.

These four volumes contain over 4,000 title, author, character and setting entries from children's and young adult fiction books written between 1859-1999. Most titles selected are award winners or finalists. The third volume contains a listing of books by awards won. All volumes include indexes.

Encyclopedia of Multiculturalism. Auerbach, Susan. ed. New York: Marshall Cavendish, 1994.

This six-volume set covers historical and current American multicultural topics, including portraits of specific ethnic groups and explorations of inter-group relations. A timeline, bibliography, resource list, and subject index can be found in Volume 6.

The Encyclopaedia of School Stories. Auchmuty, R. and Wotton, J., c2000-.

A two-volume set devoted to English-language school stories covering British school stories more specifically. It looks at their histories, critical reception, authors, topics, and critical analyses of the works themselves. Bibliographic details are included as well. v. 1. The encyclopaedia of girls' school stories. v. 2. The encyclopaedia of boys' school stories.

Profiles in World History: Significant Events and the People Who Shaped Them. Moss, Joyce and George Wilson. U.X.L, Gale Research, 1996.

This eight-volume biographical dictionary portrays more than 175 individuals who played key roles in history. The biographies are clustered around 50 historical events from the beginnings of civilization up to the Middle East peace process. Each volume indexes its own contents.
