- The Census Bureau publishes this compilation of statistics on a wide variety of subjects,
including everything from education to the environment, population to disease rates, and elections
to income. Each table is footnoted, so you can go to the source for more detailed
information.

Statistical UIUC subscription
- This database covers statistics from international, national, state, and private sources.
Some information is available in full text.

FedStats
- This is a guide to statistics published on the Internet by U.S. government
agencies.

Congressional UIUC subscription
- See the "Hot Topics" section for compilations of news articles and Congressional documents on
major issues recently considered by the U.S. Congress. For hearing transcripts and reports
from 1970 to the present, go to "CIS Index."

- Search current or previous bills from the U.S. Congress. A few topical links are at the
bottom of the main page.

Government Accountability Office
- The GAO investigates issues and writes reports for members of Congress on a wide variety of
subjects. Reports often contain statistics and balanced analysis of complex issues like
homeland security or school vouchers. Recent reports are available online.

- This is a general index to information published by the U.S. government. A free version

Government Information About Education

ERIC (Education Resources Information Center)
- This is a database of journal articles, books, reports and other documents from the U.S.
Department of Education. Coverage goes back to the 1960's, and not all citations are to
government documents. Try using the thesaurus on the Advanced Search page.

National Center for Education Statistics
- This U.S. government agency collects statistics on education at all levels. Most of the
publications available from this site are also available in print at the Government Documents
Library.

The Nation's Report Card
- Also known as the National Assessment of Educational Progress, this site monitors student
achievement in a variety of subject areas during 4th, 8th, and 12th grades.

Illinois State Board of Education
- Many decisions about education policy and funding are made at the state level. This state
agency deals with K-12 education; see the policy issues on the left side of their homepage.
The
Illinois Board of Higher Education deals with issues
related to the state's colleges and universities.

State and Federal Issues: Education
- This site from the National Conference of State Legislatures compiles information from all
fifty states about education policy and education finance for state legislators who need to know
what policies are effective in other states.
