This is the federal agency responsible for monitoring compliance with campaign finance laws and compiling election results for presidential and congressional elections.
 
Illinois State Board of Elections (http://www.elections.state.il.us/)
This is the Illinois agency responsible for monitoring state and some local elections and reporting results.  Information about Illinois results for national elections are also included.

A general encyclopedia with short articles on many concepts and terms related to elections.
 
Jerrold G. Rusk, A Statistical History of the American Electorate, 2001 (324.973R897s in Government Documents Library)
Includes information on voter turnout and election results from 1789 forward, much of it divided by state.  Includes data on presidential, congressional, and gubernatorial elections.
