Additional Searching Options

Keywords: will give you more extensive results, but may not be as focused.

Descriptors: generally more precise because each article has been reviewed and assigned the most appropriate subject terms (descriptors).

Search Tools:

Thesaurus - If you want to determine the most useful descriptors before you begin your search:

  • click on the Search Tools tab at the top of the screen.
  • choose the Thesaurus tab and type in your search term.

  • click on a term that matches your general area (such as training) to find narrower and related terms.

  • copy and paste these terms into your search from the Advanced Search screen.

Command Search -to narrow your search further:

  • click on the Search Tools tab at the top of the screen.
  • choose the Command Search options such as "English only", "Journal Articles only", "Age range", "Latest update", Date range, Methodology
  • remember to retype your search on this screen as well and press search.

Note: Keep in mind that PsycINFO is a psychology database, so the focus will be on the psychological impact or strategies used in relation to your topic. Also, if you restrict to PsycARTICLES, you will miss out on many other full text journals that are available through the Online Research Resources page <http://www.library.uiuc.edu/orr>
