create demonstrations and interactive problem-based training. Includes text captioning, audio
narration, closed captioning, full motion recording, and assessment options.
CamStudio (GPL)Open source tool that allows screen recording, but doesn't have the
editing ability as Captivate or Camtasia:

tool comparable to Captivate. Create videos for almost any project setting, including YouTube,
iPods, and blogs. Can narrate powerpoints. Includes text captioning, audio narration,

Jing: Free OSX and Windows. Captures and shares images and videos. Can
also be used as a supplement to chat, discussion posts, blogs, tutorials and includes free hosting.
ScreenFlow for Mac ($$) captures the contents of your entire desktop at the same
time as your video camera, microphone and computer's audio. Capturies DVD, video, audio and
fast moving presentations. ScreenFlow lets you easily add zoom & pan effects, trim clips,
add drop shadow & reflection, adjust audio levels etc. You can even combine existing media into

AllCapture captures in real time, add audio during recording or after
completion. Can output to Flash, EXE, ASF, DVD, SVCD and VCD. Free trial available, Windows
AviScreen (Windows) records the video into AVI files, but can also do BMP
photos. Does not record audio.
Copernicus (Mac) focuses heavily on making quick and speedy films by recording the
video to your RAM for quicker access. Does not include any support for audio.
Debut Video Capture Software (windows only) will record video directly from either
a webcam, an external device (such as VHS player), or your computer screen.
Fraps: Real Time Video Capture Software ... a favorite for many Second Life
machinima makers. Fraps can capture audio and video up to 2560x1600 with custom frame rates from 10
to 100 frames per second!
Freescreencast.com Free (Windows Only) includes free hosting.
- HyperCam (Windows) for recording screen activity to AVI files along with system audio.
iShowU (Mac) offers a wide-range of presets that allows you to record directly
into Quicktime and up to 1080P in both NTSC and PAL formats. Also does audio and the file is ready
to be published as soon as hit stop.

ScreenMimic (Mac only) software that offers transitions, audio dubbing, can output
to HTML, Quicktime and Flash. Free download and option for the paid version.
ScreenRecord outputs to Quicktime directly and can record your clicks and all
on-screen activities. Offers a free trial.
Screentoaster is an online (web) Screen Recorder. No download. Share
videos on the Internet in Flash. Embed them on blogs/webpages or send them by email.
