Eventful: Full of Library Events

Sep 17, 2008

I stumbled across Eventful this afternoon, after googling the new movie " Battle in Seattle". Movie promoters are using Eventful's "demand" feature to assess where Battle in Seattle should open next, since currently it is only showing in selected theaters. Eventful's description of this tool definitely swayed this liberal librarian. Throw the term grass-roots in there and I'm sold!

"Eventful’s unique Demand service empowers users to influence where their favorite performers, candidates and other celebrities appear by creating viral grass-roots campaigns to “Demand” them in their town."

I tell you that, to tell you this. The Champaign Public Library is using Eventful to promote their family and teen programming (as is GSLIS for their various events). I'm unsure how effective it's been for them so far, but it seems to me that Eventful provides some interesting tools for the Web 2.0 Librarian.

On that note, I see there is a CPL board meeting tonight. Thank you Eventful for alerting me. I believe I will attend. :)
