Course Integrated Instruction
- Faculty and Teaching Assistants can schedule instructional sessions that are designed
specifically for their classes, covering areas such as library research strategies, critical
thinking skills, and information literacy. Contact your
departmental library for details on
what instructional services they provide or contact
Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe, Coordinator for
Information Literacy Services and
Instruction.
- Integrated instruction is provided by the Undergraduate Library for classes that fulfill the
Composition I requirement (Rhetoric 101-102, 103-104,105, Speech Communication
111/112, and ESL 113, 114, 115) and Speech Communication 101. Classes may be scheduled via the form
available at:
http://www.library.uiuc.edu/ugl/instructors/classrequest.html.
Contact Susan Avery for additional information.
- Course-integrated instruction for graduate level ESL classes is provided each semester
through a peer learning program that pairs librarians with graduate students in Central Reference.
These courses teach graduate ESL students who did not meet the TESOL requirements to test out of
ESL 500/501. Central Reference also teaches a variety of other classes that need instruction using
Reference resources including Ling 210 and German 510. Contact Merinda for additional
information.
- Online Instruction. The Digital Literacy librarian works collaboratively with librarians and
faculty to create tools that help to integrate the library into their online teaching and learning
process. Contact
Lori Mestre, the
Digital Learning
Librarian for assistance working with Web CT, Moodle, Eluminate, the web, or other course
management systems.
- Government Information Instruction. The government information librarians create instruction
sessions for courses in a variety of disciplines which work with statistics or primary sources
about government policies, both current and historical. See
http://www.library.uiuc.edu/doc/tutorials.htm
for examples. Contact Mary Mallory for additional information (mmallory@illinois.edu, 244-4621).
