Description
A
basket
woven
in an
ovoid
shape
with
rounded
bottom
,
flaring
sharply
from
neck
to a
wide
opening
at the
top.
There are
two
wide
leather
strap
handles
attached
at the
widest
part
of the
body
,
positioned
at
4:30
and
7:30.
The
entire
body
of the
basket
had a
thick
coating
applied
to
make
it
waterproof.
Height
of
basket
is
13-1/2".
Interpretation
Basket
weaving
in the
Americas
dates
back
thousands
of
years.
Burden
baskets
such
as this
one
were
used
to
carry
water
and
other
commodities;
the
round
bottom
of the
basket
indicates
that
it
was
meant
only
to
carry
water
-
it
would
roll
on its
side
when
set
down!
