Title
Forged
Iron
Ring
Coverage / Year
1914 to 1920s
Description
This
is
a
three
inch
diameter
ring
forged
in the
Chesebro
blacksmith
shop.
Interpretation
To
make
a
solid
,
straight
iron
rod
into a
ring
takes
patience
and
skill
from a
blacksmith.
This
ring
could
be
made
in
two
ways.
One
the
blacksmith
can
make
its
cirucalar
shape
by
hand
forming
it
with
only
a
hammer.
The
other
,
places
a
rough
shape
on a
cone
structure
and the
ring
is
then
hammered
with the
guidance
of the
cone.
When
the
two
ends
of the
rod
are
joined
to
complete
the
ring
, the
extra
iron
in the
middle
is
released
and
sparks
fly.
