Description
The
spoke
puller
has
two
iron
pieces
which
are
bolted
together
so
that they
pivot.
One
piece
is
twisted
90
degrees
and
is
curved
and
sharpened.
The
other
piece
has a
hook
fashioned
at
one
end.
Interpretation
Blacksmiths
not
only
shod
horses
and
forged
iron
, they also
put
together
buggy
and
wagon
wheels
in an
activity
called
wheelwrighting.
This
shopmade
spoke
puller
, or
spoke
dog
, was
used
to
pull
the
spokes
of a
wheel
into the
holes
of the
rim.
