DescriptionThis composition doll has moveable head, arms, and legs. The head has painted dark hair. The face has painted 'googley' eyes, red lips, and pink cheeks. The doll is clothed in light blue dress that is trimmed with red and green. She also has a red scarf, and an apron of multi-colors and materials. Underneath the dress is a white slip. She also has white socks, and black paper shoes. Her dress may represent traditional Czech costume.
InterpretationPatsy Babyette is part of the 'Patsy' collection which was advertised as 'The Personality Doll, The Miss of a Million Moods, Every Pose a Picture.' Effanbee helped to stabilize the U.S. doll industry by creating this 'wardrobe doll' line that encouraged the sale of doll clothes throughout the year. Also introduced the fan club to the industry which is a tactic still used by some companies such as Mattel. Many European doll companies copied the 'Patsies' which demonstrates EffanBee's effect on the world market. America's new found success within the doll industry represents their overall strength as an economic and commercial power.
