Homemade Cloth Dolls
Title
Homemade
Cloth
Dolls
Coverage / Year
1920s
Description
The
cloth
girl
doll
on the
left
is
thought
to be
homemade.
She
wears
a
dress
and
cap
of
red
and
white
stripes
with
blue
trim.
The
cap
has a
blue
feather
on the
right
side.
The
dress
has
white
sleeves
trimmed
with
lace.
She has
white
socks
and
dark
blue
shoes
with
red
laces.
The
doll
on the
right
side
has
blue
and
white
striped
overalls
with a
white
shirt.
It
also
is
wearing
a
navy
cap
and
shoes
made
of
felt.
The
hair
is
made
of
brown
yarn
and the
blue
eyes
and
eyelashes
are
sewn
with
thick
thread.
Interpretation
These
dolls
are
unique
because
they
incorporate
two
specific
styles
from the
1920's.
They have the
cloth
body
,
brown
yarn
hair
, and
blue
threaded
eyes
and
eyelashes
of a
Raggedy
Ann
type
doll.
However
they also have the
tall
body
,
long
legs
,
short
dress
, and
feathered
cap
of the
flapper
style.
It
is
obvious
that the
creator
of these
dolls
took
in the
culture
around
them.
