Description
The
overhanging
roof
creates
a
gallery
that
probably
once
extended
around
all
sides
of the
house.
There
is
a
steep
stairway
on the
gallery
that
provides
access
to the
second
floor.
Interpretation
The
Amoureaux
House
is
one
of the
few
remaining
examples
of
post-in-ground
(poteaux
en
terre)
construction.
The
upright
logs
of
most
buildings
of this
type
have
rotted
and
decayed
over
the
years.
The
logs
in this
house
are of
red
cedar.
The
exterior
covering
of
clapboard
was
probably
added
early
in the
nineteenth
century.
