| Interpretation | This drawing is from the collection of Pierre Chouteau, Commandant of Fort Carondelet, and brother of Auguste Chouteau. Pierre Chouteau was the son of Jean Pierre Chouteau, 1758-1849 (who also went by the name Pierre). The Chouteau family were prominant fur traders. Auguste Chouteau (also known as Rene Auguste) founded St. Louis with his stepfather, Pierre Laclede, in 1764. |
