| Interpretation | "The failure of these attacks [at Big and Little Kenesaw] to break through the rebel line determined General Sherman to resort to heavy flanking movement to the right, which was completely successful, Johnson being forced to abandon the Kenesaw line and retire behind the Chattahoochie river.
