| Interpretation | "The most comprehensive view of the location of Resaca and its surrounding is to be obtained from the foritified knoll near the town, held by the rebels until the last moment. This work was finally occupied by the skirmishers of the Fifteenth Corps. The bridges over the Oostanaula were partially destroyed by the rebels after their retreat, on the morning of the 16th of May." Barnard, George N. Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign. (New York: Dover Publications, 1977), p. xii. |
