The
curved
front
of the
carriage
is
printed
with
"Royal"
in
gold
letters.
Five
adjustment
buttons
are at the
front.
Ribbon
cartridges
sit
on
both
sides.
Sides
of the
machine
have
two
beveled
glass
square
inserts
which
allow
a
view
of the
inner
parts.
On the
back
is
stenciled
"This
machine
is
protected
by
American
and
Foreign
Patents".
Interpretation
This
is
a
more
expensive
typewriter
that was
used
by an
Illinois
telephone
company
in the
1920s.
In
contrast
to the
more
common
basic
black
typewriter
, the
Royal
was
meant
to be
seen
as a
status
symbol.
