Interpretation
Cleaning
house
in the
early
1900s
took
an
amazing
amount
of
time
and
effort.
It
was a
task
usually
done
by
women
, and
experts
at the
time
estimated
that
it
took
27
hours
per
week
just
to
keep
an
eight
room
house
clean.
Carpet
sweepers
like
this
Bissel
made
it
much
easier
to
clean
carpets
in the
home
rather
than
taking
them
outside
to
beat
them
clean.
