Bowl
Title
Bowl
Coverage / Year
1775 to 1825
Description
Round
wooden
bowl.
Made
from a
burl
of a
tree.
Has been
carved
out
--
not
turned.
There
is
a
repair
made
with
tin
on
one
side
which
covers
a
crack
which
extends
over
the
lip
and to the
base.
Interpretation
We
don't
know
who
made
this
piece
or
exactly
when
it
was
made.
We
do
know
that
it
was
important
and
useful
enough
to
repair
when
it
was
broken.
The
tin
piece
is
a
scrap
saved
from
another
object
,
perhaps
a
lantern.
This
bowl
is
a
nice
example
of how
before
the
Industrial
Revolution
items
were
repaired
and
recycled
rather
than
discarded.
