1860
in
Illinois
you
needed
to be a
state
resident
,
twenty-one
years
old
, and a
man.
In
1840
you
needed
to
own
property
in
order
to
vote.
At that
time
over
80%
of
eligible
voters
cast
ballots
in
national
elections.
