Interpretation
This
brown
composition
baby
doll
looks
very
similar
to
one
made
in
1930
America.
There are
many
of these in
existence
today
and they
came
in
many
sizes.
When
the
U.S.
became
a
large
doll
supplier
in the
1920's
, they
began
to
produce
black
dolls
by
similar
methods
used
in
other
countries.
These
methods
included
merely
painting
white
dolls
black
or
brown
,
allowing
black
dolls
to be
made
in
large
quantities
which
explains
their
numbers
today.
Later
,
when
companies
began
taking
an
interest
in their
African
American
consumers
, they
began
taking
the
extra
step
in
designing
a
special
mold
that
more
realistically
reflected
African
American
children.
