Postcard of Abraham Lincoln's Home
Resource Typeimage
TitlePostcard of Abraham Lincoln's Home
Coverage / Year1920 to 1940; Modern
DescriptionPostcard featuring a view of the Lincoln Home between 1895 and 1906. The postcard was created in California in 1920. A large elm tree with only one main branch is in front of the home. A striped awning covers the front door and a plaque is visible just to the right of the door. Heavy vegetation and an urn decorate the front yard. Unused. L 5 1/2" x W 3 1/2".
InterpretationPostcards continue to be one of the most enduring souvenirs of the Abraham Lincoln Home, and provide valuable visual references for the condition and appearance of the Home throughout the years. For example, the large elm tree in the front of the home lost one of its main branches in the 1890s and was cut down in 1906 after sucumbing to Dutch Elm disease.
