| Description | Reproduced photo of the Ninian Edwards mansion, Springfield, IL. Taken from side of house. Home has two 2-story sections, with one story wings on either side. Left section wing is barely visible in photograph, has one or two chimneys; section is set back, mansard roof, double windows. Right section is bracketed-style with low porch, main door on left side, right porch has deep porch. Two windsor-style rockers on right porch, settee on right wing porch. L 8" x W 10". |
| Interpretation | Ninian W. Edwards was a prominent member of Springfield society. He married Elizabeth Todd, sister to Mary Todd, the future wife of Abraham Lincoln. The Edwards Home was torn down in the early 1900's, to build the Centennial Building, a state office building now known as the Howlett Building. The current state capitol building is next door. |
