| Interpretation | Osbourne H. Oldroyd was named by the State of Illinois as the first caretaker of the Lincoln Home in 1887. His private collection of Lincoln memorabilia, which he placed on public display, both reflected and fueled a growing national interest in the legacy of Abraham Lincoln. Oldroyd's collection was later purchased by the federal government, and eventually became the basis for the National park Service Lincoln collection at Ford's Theatre National Historic Site. Many of those artifacts were eventually transferred to the Lincoln Home after its restoration in 1988. |
