| Description | The obverse view shows a left-facing profile of the late President with LIBERTY overhead, IN GOD WE TRUST to the lower left, and below, the date. The reverse view shows an eagle with an olive branch of peace in its talons descending to the surface of the moon, on which is written ONE DOLLAR. The distant earth can be seen above and to the left. An arc of small stars surrounds the eagle, the earth and the motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM. Around the edge is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. |
| Interpretation | Chief engraver, Frank Gasparo prepared the design for the Eisenhower Dollar, which honors the late President, as well as the Apollo XI flight to the moon. His initials appear on the reverse below the eagle's tail, just above the tip of the olive branch. The mint mark (on this example a D) appears just below the bust on the obverse.
