Description"Royal Oak" iron cook stove on four cabriole legs. Had rounded apron front. Stove curves in toward back. Bent stove pipe. Molded rims, leaf and rosette molding on doors. L 40" H 27" W 31".
InterpretationThis stove was purchased by Abraham Lincoln for Mary Lincoln in 1856, and used until the Lincolns moved to Washington, D.C. in early 1861. Mrs. Lincoln wished to bring the stove with her to Washington, but Mr. Lincoln convinced her it was unnecessary.
