InterpretationAlthough men in occupations considered "critical" (such as agriculture and food production) were exempt from the draft, there was a shortage of farm labor during World War II. The Office of War Information and the Department of Agriculture charged the State Extension Services with mobilizing and utilizing local farm resources. This poster is part of the educational/informational campaign urging citizens to volunteer as field hands in order to assist farmers in food production for the war effort.
