| Title | City Hall and Fire Department, Champaign, Illinois |
| Coverage / Year | 1889 |
| Description | 102 N. Neil St., Champaign. |
| Interpretation | When the first city hall was built in 1889 on land donated by banker David Bailey, the police and fire departments and city government were brought under one roof. A 1914 addition on the east provided space for the city's first "auto" fire trucks. This 1918 view from the southwest shows local architect Seely Brown's combination of arches, hooded windows, and towers - Romanesque Revival architectural features found in many civic and commercial buildings of the era. |
