The InfoLit Brown Bag Lunches

Given the success of the first two Brown Bag lunches, the committee has decided to continue them throughout the summer and fall. The next Brown Bag will be on July 7th where the topic will be a review of ALA. Exact time and place TBA. There will be two or three Brown Bags in the fall. The dates will be chosen soon in order to have as few conflicts as possible. Suggestions for topics are welcome.

Fall Festival Planning

It was decided that the Fall Festival will fall on the first Thursday after Labor Day as has been the tradition and will take place between 10 and 2. In general, the committee hopes to have more hands-on activities this year. As such, the committee is looking at similar events at other campuses and ALA, though the following list of ideas was generated at this meeting:

University of Michigan's Instructor College serves to further professional development of the University's information professionals. The UserEd committee sees this as a good way to keep librarians up-to-date. Though certain aspects of Michigan's model may not be necessary at Illinois, other aspects, such as the Reading Club, may be useful. The committee has already made steps toward this type of professional development with our Brown Bags. Further ideas include keeping up with LIS foundations via GSLIS and possibly hold professional development meetings on LEEP. Though their will probably be a survey sent to find relevant topics for these discussions, the UserEd committee agrees that assessment would be a good starting point. This will be discussed in further detail in July.
