1. Introductions of committee members
2. Report on progress of identifying registration software (Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe)
Workshop registration software is needed for both user education and staff training events. Lisa discussed the possibilities of a software program that could be used to organize registration sessions for various types of events (staff retreats, training sessions, etc.). A small group including Lisa, Beth, and John met last week to discuss the programming/scheduling needs of the UIUC Library. Needs include, but are not limited to, taking registrations, wait listing, setting maximum registrations, rostering, etc. Lisa, on behalf of the User Education Committee, from the Budget Group, requested and received $3000.00 for the software purchase.
On March 6th, from 10:00-11:00 in ACES 509, E* vanced Solutions will demonstrate their E* vents Software. The Staff Development and Training Advisory Committee, the User Education Committee, and the library community will be invited to attend the demonstration.
3. Update on Web page progress (Beth Woodard)
Beth asked the committee to view the staff training files on the G drive. She also presented the “in-progress” web page, found at http://www.library.uiuc.edu/training/training. The page includes the committee charge and a training events calendar.
Beth wants to make the calendar more concise by creating another web page that would provide more detailed information about each event. Lisa suggested that the committee wait to include more detailed information until the committee understands the capabilities of the proposed scheduling software. The committee discussed whether or not there should be cross-over between the newly created training calendar and the existing meeting calendar. The group decided to include a web link to the meeting calendar from the event calendar.
4. Review Responsibilities statement draft
Changes and editions to the drafted Statement of Responsibilities for Training were discussed at length. Beth will edit the statement in accordance to the committee’s discussions and distribute it via email for review.
Lisa and Susie will create a short proposal, asking the Administrative Council to give their input regarding the collection of supervisory training data. The proposal will indicate the views discussed during the Feb. 24, 2003 meeting. Collection options include, but are not limited to: 1) collecting a separate training evaluation form (yearly); 2) collecting a training evaluation form as a supplement to the supervisory evaluation forms (yearly); 3) creating a web form that would be submitted at the completion of all training events; or 4) collecting a training evaluation form/timesheet on a quarterly basis.
The committee will discuss data collection options after they receive feedback from the Administrative Council.
The next Staff Development and Training Advisory Committee meeting will be March 10, 2003 from 1:30-3:00 in 428 Main Library.
