Recruiting for Searches

 

Background:

EC has continued its discussions of recruitment for searches, and would like to get faculty input and suggestions on best practices for recruiting large, diverse candidate pools.  

 

Discussion Questions: 

  1. What methods have search chairs found to be effective for recruiting large pools?  
  2. How can faculty be involved more broadly during the interview process (presentations, etc.)?
  3. What are some ways faculty can be actively involved in recruitment for the impending UL search?

 

 

New Business:

 

Advanced Composition and Information Literacy Instruction  – Lisa Hinchliffe (10 min)

 

Background:

All undergraduate students at UIUC must fulfill an advanced composition (AC) requirement as part of their general education requirements. The AC requirement is met through a subject/content course that is taught through a writing-across-the-curriculum approach. The User Education Committee has been exploring this requirement as an opportunity for embedding information literacy in the general education program.

 

Discussion Questions:

  1. How can subject and generalist librarians best collaborate to integrate information literacy into AC courses?

 

  1. What resources would be needed to pursue this initiative?
