Exhibitions Committee Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, October 12, 2010
In attendance:Laura Larkin, Dennis Sears, Pat Miller, Lonnie Clark, Chris Johns
1.Clarification of committee membership
a.Addition of Chris Johns to committee as well. Laura Larkin apologized, as she had not received any notice that Chris was an added member.
2.Discussion of website
a.Much better to give people a short resource rather than something too lengthy.& We currently have a 3-pg resource already developed as well as a 16-pg resource. Offer the 3-pg resource to participants along with the list of resources from the long document. Chris Johns suggested that we also need to compile a clear list of what is and is not permissible.
b. It was also suggested that the schedule as shown on our website be kept up to date.Dennis clarified that he was checking on that regularly and would continue to do so.
a.Committee members were sent copies of the "conservation consultation for exhibition preparation" and edits were as follows:
i. Clarification of Preservation & Conservation units and need to standardize how they are used in the document
ii. Be sure to distinguish between encapsulation and lamination
iii. Incorporate information on displaying items vertically
iv. provide contact information for individuals in pres and cons
v. Provide a clear list of rules and regulations
b. The committee had a tangential discussion of the need for some modifications to Marshall cases to allow for better and fuller use of the space. Some mechanism for hanging signs and labels from top of case.
4. Scheduling for the 2011 calendar year
a. Laura Larkin promised to send out the announcement to LIB-NEWS about the 2011 exhibition "season".
