**The Committee did not meet in June 2009.
1. Scott Schwartz on Exhibit Preparation
The Committee invited Scott Schwartz to share his experience and knowledge about exhibit preparation.
Scott described the pedestals that he has constructed as made from scrap pieces of 5/8" birch plywood with butt joints. He primes and paints (3 coats) them with spray paint. He puts felt on the bottom edges to prevent scratching the surfaces of the cases. The bottoms of the pedestals are open to allow for nesting smaller boxes inside larger boxes for compact storage. They are constructed in 10", 6", 4" squares. Scott at the Mill Shop may be available to construct these for the Comm.
He also uses bean bags of various sizes, filled with polypropylene beads to support or stabilize objects. The beads are available at Michaels and Hobby Lobby.
He advised that any signage must be visible from a wheelchair (seated position) and that fonts without serifs are more easily read by visually impaired people. He also recommended mounting labels on plexiglass supports, which can be bent and hung from shelves.
Laura recommended the Comm. obtain a 2-tiered cart for exhibitors to use while installing their exhibits. There is no place to arrange exhibit materials near the cases while installing. Thisis a good idea that the Comm. should discuss this further, especially where it could be stored and still be easily accessed by exhibitors.
2. August meeting - Clean Out Supply Cabinet
Our August meeting will be used to look at the supplies in the locking metal cabinet. Let's meet in room 44, Preservation Dept., of the Library since it is close to the Supply cabinet.
3. New Committee Members
Paula Kaufman notified the Committee that Dennis Sears, RBML will join the Committee in August 2009.
