Request to PTAC from the Executive Committee concerning the Library Faculty Statement on Promotion and Tenure

December 2, 2013

The “Statement on Promotion and Tenure to the Library Faculty at UIUC,” found online at <http://www.library.illinois.edu/committee/promo/pta.html>, was last updated in 2000.This Statement expresses the Library Faculty's shared understanding of our criteria for promotion and tenure and helps to communicate these criteria to Campus Committees and Officials. Both the University Statutes [1] and Provost Communication #9 [2] expect/require that we document Library-specific criteria and procedures for promotion and tenure.   It is critical that this document reflect our current philosophy, practices, and criteria.

The Executive Committee asks that the Promotion & Tenure Advisory Committee review the Statement as it currently stands and suggest to the Library Faculty for its consideration potential changes that adhere to pertinent Library and campus bylaws and which may better articulate the current environment.

In particular we ask the Committee to review the Statement with regard to how well it articulates and/or accounts for:
