Executive Committee Minutes

1.   Review of minutes from February 27

      Minutes were approved with changes.

 

2.   Question Time

      There was discussion about the new Head of UGL and the process of Lisa Hinchliffe taking over and how Information Literacy will be handled while she is heading UGL. Lori Mestre will take more of a role in Information Literacy.

 

3.   Staff classifications, Promotion, and Training – Cindy Kelly

      All of the position audits have been completed.  Twenty five approvals for reclassification have been granted.

 

Cindy provided copies of the new classifications and discussed the changed titles, position descriptions, and job requirements. She also discussed how the promotion line works and what avenues supervisors have for promoting their staff or finding applicants with suitable skill sets.

Significant changes have taken place particularly at the old LTA (now Library Specialist) classification.  The line was previously open only to original applicants, required a BA degree, and used a ranking mechanism based on the completion of a knowledge test.  Under the new classification, it is open to promotion from Library Assistant (old Library Clerk III/Chief Library Clerk), does not require a BA, and uses rankings based on only an resume review in the Personnel Services Office.  Criteria for that review that have not been provided to the Library or to applicants.  Cindy will have a forum in the next couple of months so staff and faculty can be provided information regarding the new system.
