  1. Approval of December 9, 2008 minutes

Minutes were approved with minor changes.

  1. Discussion with Cindy Kelly and Joyce Wright - Exhibit for Staff Appreciation Month (April)

Emily explained to Joyce the reason why the committee invited her to this month's meeting. In short, Emma who works with Annette Morris, the chair of the exhibits committee, suggested that our committees work together to incorporate an element of diversity into this exhibit. Paula suggested using the cases in the Marshall Gallery to supplement the staff appreciation exhibit to showcase diversity in the library through collections.  Joyce suggested that our committee work on a separate exhibit to highlight the library's diverse collections and the programs, training and other related highlights of the diversity committee. Emma let everyone know that September is still available and the committee agreed that this would be an ideal month to showcase diversity within the Library.

Suggestions:

B.A. suggested looking to the archives for good sources for materials. Cindy I. suggested looking at media and books as well as ALA and GSLIS related archives materials.  Paula said that there are 6 cases and continuous wall space. The committee discussed whether to use each case for targeted racial, ethnic, and

minority groups. Emily suggested veering away from diversity and emphasizing cultural competencies. Paula recommended including an interactive element to the exhibit such as a white board. Jimi suggested we look at producing a documentary or videos. B.A. wondered if we could web stream from the diversity website.  Emma suggested compiling a list of responses, quotes and ideas of what diversity means to staff and members of the public and then tack their responses up on to the boards - anonymously.

Cindy I. recommended that we keep this as an agenda item on our monthly meetings as we move into spring. Cindy also said that she would e-mail Annette Morris to reserve the exhibit space in the Marshall Gallery for September. We concluded by telling Joyce that we will not be collaborating on the April exhibit.

  1. Subcommittee on Interdisciplinary Collections/Services

(Cindy, B.A. and Paula)

Cindy I. said that she would write to Scott W., Tom. T. and Joann J. to discuss the sub-committee's ideas and input. Emily suggested holding a brown bag lunch to invite selectors to discuss the topic. B.A. acknowledged that this is a big topic and asked how we will move forward with this. Emma suggested speaking with GSLIS faculty such as Sue S. in order to facilitate a panel aimed at the student ACRL chapter about the topic. B.A. was reluctant to move towards an actual program and would rather first garner input from Scott W., Tom T., and Joann J. Cindy I confirmed that she would e-mail these three in order to begin establishing parameters for future programs and training ideas.
