1. Approval of Minutes
The minutes from the April 8 meeting were approved, with corrections.
2. Discussion with Jody Kiesewetter (Library Staff Support Committee) and Meg Burger (Social Events Committee)
Jody and Meg met with the group to discuss the possibility of a summer sports league for the Library. Meg thought their might be some interest in forming a kick-ball league. Several people suggested activities that didn't require too much of a cardio workout, but would appeal and attract a large number of participants/attendees.
The Social Events Committee is planning a June event. The group suggested that we "test the waters" with a few activities (softball, volleyball, etc.), ask participants for input and see whether or not we should pursue a summer sports league.
Other ideas such as a winter bowling league or activities/events that might attract library staff who enjoy gardening are also a possibility. Meg suggested that we also take advantage of other organizations such as Campus Rec to organize Library sporting activities.
3. Discussion with Cindy Kelly (Library HR)
The group discussed exit interviews and mentoring for Academic Professionals with Cindy. The Library has a lot more APs on staff so the Diversity Committee wants to facilitate the APs transition as Library employees.
Cindy Kelly commented that GAs currently participate in exit interviews. Kim added that only a small number of exiting APs and library faculty participate in exit interview with Paula. These interviews are a good opportunity for the Library management to get feedback and input. The group added that they would like the exit interviews to address the issue of "climate." Cindy Kelly offered to forward possible exit interview questions addressing climate to the group. The group also expressed a desire to standardize the various exit interviews conducted in the Library.
Cindy Ingold will also add Cindy Kelly to the committee email list
4. Updates
Emily and Cindy are working with David Ward and Kathleen Kern to integrate diversity issues into Fall GA Training.
Emily and Cindy received positive responses at the last Faculty Meeting regarding their report on diversity efforts in the Library. Lynn Wiley offered to boost the collection funding for the multicultural funds and Jo Kibbee will be adding a link from the Study Abroad Resources website to the diversity website.
Emily and Cindy attended the Center on Democracy in a Multiracial Society conference and found it very valuable and insightful. The programs were interesting!
