Cataloging Working Group Meeting

July 14, 2011

 

Present: Qiang Jin (Presiding) ; Atoma Batoma ; Andy Bendel ; Barb Henigman ; Diana Long ; Nicole Long ; Yuriko Oono ; Paula Reveal ; Jianying Shou ; Marek Sroka ; Janet Weber ; and Robin Hess (Minutes).

 

Qiang Jin called the CWG meeting to order at 9:40 a.m.

 

Introductions

 

1.    The minutes of the April 14, 2011 meetings were viewed and approved.

 

2.    ALA 2011 brief reports presented.  Reports are being prepared.

3.    RDA Training Task Force:

a.    Qiang Jin sent email with links to the following reports.

b.    There have been 2 meetings so far. The Task Force decided it needs to have a good understanding of FRBR before training others.

c.    Qiang Jin gave a brief overview of the online RDA Toolkit and encouraged everyone to become familiar with the information provided in theToolkit.  http://access.rdatoolkit.org/

d.    Qiang Jin also showed us where the RDA Webinar links are located on the CAM website and encouraged everyone to watch these sessions.  http://www.library.illinois.edu/cam/cattools/index.html  If you have any trouble loading the webinars, please log a work request to Library IT.

4.    Voyager upgrade to version 7.2.5:

a.    Michael Norman was unable to present this information and Qiang Jin will ask him to please send an email detailing the upgrade.

 

5.    Converting from Dewey Decimal Classification in the Undergrad Library to Library of Congress Classification:

a.    There was a general discussion between the attendees.

b.    Michael Norman was unable to present this information and Qiang Jin will ask him to please send an email detailing the conversion.

 

6.    Announcements:

a.    Janet Weber mentioned the local computers were going to be upgraded to Windows 7 and the Outlook upgrade was in progress.
