Barbara J. Ford is the executive director of the Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries and the immediate past president of the American Library Association (ALA).

Ford, a librarian for more than 20 years, previously served as an associate library director at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, before joining VCU in 1991.

Ford earned a bachelor's degree in history from Illinois Wesleyan University, a master's degree in international relations from Tufts University and a master's degree in library science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
