Advisory Committee to the Associate University Librarian for Services Minutes 15 November 2011

Walter volunteered to take the minutes.

2. Additions to the Agenda

None

3. Announcements

Ward provided a brief summary of the OCLC Research Webinar on virtual reference services. The OCLC report, “Seeking Synchronicity,” is available at http://www.oclc.org/reports/synchronicity/.

4. Strategic Planning (Walter and Ward)

The Strategic Planning Task Force is preparing the final draft of the strategic planning document for EC review, and plans to submit it to EC before the end of the month.

5. Services for Graduate Students

The committee discussed the upcoming discussion of this topic with the Administrative Council and suggested the following as questions that might be posed to AC (and, through AC, to the divisions):

• How significant are services to graduate and professional students in your liaison area(s)?
• What services are currently targeted primarily at graduate and professional students in your liaison area(s)?
• What resources (e.g., LibGuides, Web sites) have been developed for graduate and professional students in your liaison area(s)
• What opportunities are there for developing new services targeted primarily at graduate and professional students in your liaison area(s)?
• How are library services targeted at graduate and professional students in your liaison area(s) marketed/promoted?
• Is there a “guaranteed” point of contact between subject specialists and graduate and professional students in your liaison area(s), e.g., a new graduate student orientation, new teaching assistant orientation, first-year graduate proseminar, required research methods course, dissertation preparation course?
