Awards and Recognition Committee

Charge

To coordinate, promote, and support Library recognition and awards programs for faculty, staff, and students, including programs aimed at recognizing the work of Library staff, and those aimed at recognizing the work of Library users. The committee will manage the nomination and selection process for select recognition and awards programs (as determined by the University Librarian and Dean of Libraries) and will facilitate Library-wide coordination and communication for recognition and awards programs managed by other Library units or committees.

In carrying out its charge, the Awards and Recognition Committee will:

  1. Identify new opportunities for programs aimed at recognizing and rewarding the work of Library faculty, staff, students, and users, and communicate those opportunities to the University Librarian and Dean of Libraries for review
  2. Establish selection criteria for recognition and awards programs managed by the committee
  3. Establish nomination processes for recognition and awards programs managed by the committee
  4. Appoint selection committees for recognition and awards programs managed by the committee
  5. Establish an annual calendar related to nomination and selection of individuals for recognition and awards programs managed by the committee
  6. Communicate regularly with Library units and/or committees sponsoring recognition and awards programs not managed by the committee
  7. Promote awareness among Library faculty and staff of recognition and awards programs at the University level and among relevant scholarly and professional associations
  8. Provide support for the nomination of Library faculty and staff for recognition and awards programs at the University level and among relevant scholarly and professional associations
  9. Develop and oversee a “Recognition and Awards” section of the Library Web site, inclusive of all recognition and awards programs conducted by the Library, as well as recognition of Library faculty, staff, and/or student employees by programs sponsored by the University and by relevant scholarly and professional associations Coordinate with the Social Events Committee and/or the Office of Advancement on public events recognizing Library staff and Library users

Membership

The membership of the Recognition and Awards Committee should be drawn from all categories of permanent Library staff, including faculty, Academic Professionals, and Civil Service staff, and should include membership, ex officio, from the Office of Library Human Resources and the Office of Library Advancement, and Office of Staff Development and Training.

The Staff Development and Training Coordinator and the Head of Library Human Resources will co-chair the group.
