How to Print from Your Laptop Using Library Printers (For Apple/Mac)


 

Step 1: Readying your Laptop

You must be connected to the UIUC wireless network through CITES (for example: UIUCnet)

  1. Click the Apple logo (in the top left corner of your screen) and choose System Preferences
  2. Under Hardware click on Print & Fax (In Lion OS X its Print & Scan)
  3. A window entitled Print & Fax pops up. Click the + button
  4. Click IP at the top of the Add Printer window
  5. Under Protocol choose Line Printer Daemon – LPD
  6. Under Address type printing1.library.uiuc.edu
  7. Under Queue type received
  8. Under Name you may give the Library Printer any name you find helpful (example: Communications)
  9. Click Add
  10. A window will appear entitled Installable Options, click Continue
  11. You will now have a Library Printer saved and available to use in the Library

Step 2: How to Print

  1. Select Print as you would normally
  2. Under Printer Name select  the name of the Library Printer
  3. You will need to go to the Web Release Station page:

https://www-s2.library.uiuc.edu/wrs (You may want to Bookmark this for future use)

  1. On the Web Release Station page, select how you want to pay for your printouts, then click Continue
  2. Login when prompted
  3. Once logged in, you will see a window showing your print jobs
  4. Select a printer using the options available in the drop down list under Printer Location (example: Communications)
  5. Review your print job before clicking Print Me
  6. Once you are finished printing, click Sign Out
  7. Your printouts will be available at the chosen printer

 

*Color printing is not currently available in the Communications Library; it is available in the Main Library, Undergraduate Library, Grainger Library, or the ICL lab in the Education building*
